Living Near the APAFR

Sound

Communities located near a military installation such as APAFR may be exposed to aircraft and blast noise that may interfere with typical indoor activities, such as watching television, talking on the telephone and sleeping.

Height

Low level flight training areas extend beyond the boundaries of the APAFR. For safety reasons, there may be height limitations on structures.

Bird/Aircraft Strike Hazards

Areas identified as having potential risks of Bird/Aircraft Strike Hazards (BASH) are natural areas such as open water and marsh areas as well as man-made areas like landfills.  These areas attract resident and migratory bird populations creating the risk that birds could cause a plane to crash.

Lighting

Outdoor lights can cause difficult and unsafe flying conditions.  Lighting regulations may be in place to promote compatibility with aircraft operations.
